PRINCESS VELASCO / An Appreciation Post

In case she’s unknown to you, she’s an acoustic sensation in the local music scene and a member of the ASAP Sessionistas. Her hit debut album is a compilation of her soothing acoustic renditions of today’s hottest pop and rnb songs. And obviously, she’s a beautiful young lady, too! :)

Proof of my being a fan? I got her album. I watch her almost every Sunday at ASAP. I’m subscribed to her Facebook page and although I’m not that active on Twitter, I followed her there. See? She even replies to my tweets. How tweet of her! Haha!

Proof of her being a sweet, fan-loving artist? Well, I was just one of the few people whom she made a fan sign for. <*insert proud grin here*>

Last Friday, I was at Robinsons Starmills’ sale event and found out that she was slated to perform that day, part of her mall tour of sorts. Too bad I didn’t bring my digital camera, so I had to rely on my cellphone cam. Blurred is better than nothing. Here are just two of the many pictures I took which are decipherable enough and worthy of uploading.

The clearest photo of her that I was able to take was the one below. This was when she was singing “Di Na Natuto” (a Gary V. original) and she was polite enough to walk towards our side of the venue and treated fans and non-fans alike to a photo ops.

Her stint on stage was brief but she had an awesome set of songs, which included most of my current favorites like Jason Mraz’s “I Won’t Give Up” and Adele’s smash single “Rollin’ In The Deep”. The show was sooo good I could even pay for a ticket just to watch her again, perhaps on a regular concert or gig or something.

For your songs, for your replies, for the fan sign and the free show: Thanks, Princess! I love you! ;) Hope to see you next time with your Sessionista buddies once we are finally rewarded with our ASAP passes. :D

Oh, and keep rockin’!

NEW DAY / Sons of Jupiter
I went to SM City Pampanga yesterday and bought this CD, in support of my friend and officemate who happens to be the band’s composer and rhythm guitarist. Sons of Jupiter was the first Kapampangan indie rock band to have its debut album released nationwide. The album launch was held recently at Clark, Pampanga. The CD contains 10 original tracks, with three of them having already gained massive airplay at a regional radio station.
In a nutshell, New Day is a groovy one hour pleasure with songs that uplift the spirit and encourage personal evolution.
Long live Kapampangan music!

COUNT ON ME l Whitney Houston and Cece Winans

The late great Whitney Houston’s duet performance that I love, next to “When You Believe” with the great Mariah Carey.

For friendships that will never end.

BINOCULAR
Long forgotten, but an awesome band nonetheless. They were best known for their smash hit single ‘Deep’, from their self-titled debut album which was released in early 2000. I (and a friend of mine) agree that they were the first band to do electro/pop rock, way before the (more awesome) Owl City of this generation. I think they also sound like Heyhihello.
Their music is melancholic and deep and mostly about longing, loss and pain; It appeals not only to the ears but to the senses.
Other notable tracks from the album were ‘Don’t Say Goodbye, Say Good Night’, (which turned out to be a weak follow-up to ‘Deep’) and my personal favorite ‘Gone Away’.
Such a pity no one had heard from them since then.
Bye-nocular then!

JASON MRAZ
He’s known as the Geek in the Pink and the music industry is so Lucky to have this talented young artist in their fold. He’s a master at Wordplay and fans just Love, Love, Love his distinct singing style, his own brand of mush and his musical genius. I Won’t Give Up being among his legions of admirers the world over and there’s No Stopping Us from appreciating his art and his works.
His songs give us The Remedy to a noisy and wearisome world. The World As I See It now is a remarkable place because of him. It’s all A Beautiful Mess indeed.
I’m Yours forever, man.

01 FOUND l Phillip Larue

It wasn’t that difficult choosing the song that would jumpstart this personal album. I just knew that, undoubtedly and irrevocably, it would have to be this one. My ears have never gotten tired of this song and it’s by far the only song that has put me into the LSS mode for the longest time.

“Found” is an ear-friendly pop-rock ditty from an unknown album by Christian music artist Phillip Larue. I first heard of the song in September of 2009, out of a suggestion from a friend whose music savvy I so trust.

From a technical aspect, “Found” veers toward mainstream music, very relevant and has that teenage TV show soundtrack feel to it. The riff is catchy and the lyrics are simple yet powerful.

The song is an honest rendition of the many cliches about searching for love and finding it in the most unexpected of ways.

I haven’t found the love of my life yet, but this song makes me believe and gives me the hope that someday, my searching will end.

Getting lost and being found at the same time —- what a lovely mystery.

“When you’re lost,

lost,

lost in love,

you never want to find your way out;

you never want to be found.”

Because I want to have S.O.M.E.
Starting I-know-not-when, I’ll be sharing songs that have become personal anthems and defined certain episodes of my rather quiet life. Hence, the Soundtrack Of My Existence. The songs are just numerous and I know they won’t fit in a single album, but here’s my take on how I’d like the cover design to look like, if it were to become one.
< wishful thinking >
