A BEAUTIFUL SIGHT
Yesterday, June 6, 2012, the world witnessed a rare and spectacular astronomical event known as ‘The Transit of Venus’. It’s when the planet VenusĀ passes directly between the Earth and the sun. It is called a transit because it does not considerably block the face of the sun while crossing it, as opposed to eclipse. The phenomenon occurs in pairs every 100 or so years.
Yesterday’s was the last transit of Venus of the 21st century andĀ the last we’ll ever see in our lifetime. The next one will happen on the year 2117.
